Understanding Uncertainty.
A wise Shaman told me “there are only two feelings, fear and love.” As I sit with many souls facing great uncertainty this year, I am reflecting on the words of this wise elder.
I remember being in my Chicago office in late January, early February, as many of my clients repeated the same sentence during their individual sessions with me. “It feels like the world is ending.” We had not yet known of the global pandemic or what this year would bring but I repeatedly heard this statement from one client after another. I remember looking at each of those intuitive souls and saying calmly, “The world is ending as we know it. You are sensing a evolutionary shift that is taking place this year.” I remember the resonance of my voice, echoing in the stillness of the crisp Chicago winter air that always seemed to creep in through every tiny crevice it could find in my office. I watched each client soak in those words and measure it against their own knowing. Eventually they would offer back an “I know. I can feel it too.” We would spend the rest of those sessions speaking about our responses to endings and our relationship to change.
It’s only natural to feel fear in the face of uncertainty. We have been met with significant social transformation and a lot of changes on an individual level. There has been an immense amount of loss that has multiplied into collective grief. Many of you may feel your soul awakening to your unique gifts and feeling your intuition expand your consciousness of the multiverse. This awakening has likely even greatly enhanced your perception of time and space, alerting you to the oneness of everything and the nonlinear nature of time. All of this expanding spiritual consciousness and all of the physical and material losses have come with this ending to life, as we have known it so far. Our planet has been on an evolutionary course since it’s formation and this moment is another major shift in its 4.5 billion year history. We are on our own evolutionary trajectory to become even more complex. Just as our ancestors learned new skills for the era of the planet in which they lived, as are we letting go of tools (emotional, physical, and spiritual) that no longer serve us as we are adapting to our new environments. I am not for one second saying that this is an easy task. However, I do believe you are here on purpose, to raise the collective consciousness and vibrational frequency of this planet.
As I sit with many people during these last two weeks of the year, it is as it always has been, a reflective time. As you process the pain that is associated with all the endings taking place around us, it may be hard to think about the future because of all the uncertainty that seems to cloak what is to come beyond what we have known. I offer us a challenge to reacquaint ourselves with the uncertainty.
Science, Religions across the ages, spiritualists, sages and wise elders all agree on this thing: before the earth formed, there was only time and space where the earth would one day be. There was darkness and nothingness that was called “void”. You may call this a cosmic uncertainty if you will. I call it “the void” or “the cosmic womb” because there in the darkness and the uncertainty was infinite possibility. When there is nothingness and uncertainty, there is room for the potential of creation to bring light and form. The fertility of the void began this planet’s evolution and it’s the same matter that offered us our first breaths. I offer you the opportunity to explore the void in your life. If there is uncertainty and confusion, allow your weary heart rest, as the potential of uncertainty is infinite. Moments after major endings offer us a rare opportunity to create something new, better, and more in service to our highest good. You get to create in this moment, how you want your life and the life of your descendants to be. This is true of every present moment but in the rare opportunities where there is a global shift, this is more relevant now than ever. Your potential self is as infinite as the void. If there are only two feelings, fear and love, fear is the counterpart that expands our awareness of love. When we embrace the void, subsequently embracing our fears, we transform with love what was once uncertainty. We are able to grow with love, what was once void and without form. What was once an idea or a flash of inspiration can now become our new reality. Change is imminent and we cannot resist evolution. We can, however, choose to embrace uncertainty and be nurtured into newness by the cosmic womb, always knowing that infinite creative potential is waiting on the other side.
