You will love this course.

One out of every five transgender people who disclose their identity to a therapist will be urged by their therapist to stop being transgender. One out of 10 transgender people will be refused services entirely, often because the provider cites a lack of experience working with transgender people. It’s little wonder that a third of transgender individuals who would want therapy choose not to seek it out (National Center for Transgender Equality, 2015). You can change these outcomes by ensuring that every aspect of your practice is gender celebratory, from your initial phone call to your final session. This course is an intermediate course on transgender care. Clinicians will learn how to actively affirm and celebrate all people who identify as transgender or non-binary, including how to support a transgender client through a gender transition.

Learning objectives.

By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Identify at least four challenges transgender clients face when working with cisgender therapists

  • Identify at least five ways to make your practice celebratory and inclusive

  • Describe at least four aspects of a gender transition

  • Apply at least three techniques for processing gender identity issues in therapy
